Sacred Plants, Our Ancestors’ Legacy was delivered across two locations: MWV’s Monash Women’s Circle in Melbourne’s East, and the Laverton Community and Education Centre in the West.
In this project, participants explored their cultural heritage through plants. Each woman created a soft sculpture representing their chosen plant and documented its story in a handmade zine—blending art, memory, and storytelling.
The artworks and their curatorial possibilities were further developed by MWV’s resident artist, Sofie Dieu, during her residency at Seventh Gallery in Richmond. The project celebrated ancestral knowledge, creative expression, and the role of plants as cultural carriers across generations.
This project was supported by the City of Hobsons Bay’s Make it Happen Grant and the City of Monash Community Grant programs as well as Creative Victoria Artist Grant.
