This arts and cultural project explored and showcased stories of 50 migrant and refugee Australian women. Through embroidery workshops, the women teased the meaning of home and expressed their experiences of displacement and womanhood. A large circular dress of 3m diameter was created which was then performed and photographed. The project highlights migrant and refugee women’s vital role in the community. Their journeys were also shared through a touring exhibition in Victoria and New South Wales, the publication of a book, and public events.
Longing for Home was supported by the City of Monash’s Community Grants program and the City of Kingston’s Arts Grant.
